Our Video Includes: - The Mesero and the Tango - La Raspa (Circle Dance) - Easy or Children's Tarantella - Il Codiglione (vs Quadrille) - Tarantella (demonstration) - Tarantella (for everyone) - Easy- to- learn instructions An Instructional video for Italian Folk Dances!!! The dancers walk through the dance figures first, then dance to the music with Tina as caller. Using a caller permits the dancers to learn the steps and figures, provides an opportunity to practice, allows for mistakes, and energizes the dancers to continue! Video includes: The Mesero and the Tango: with Tina and daughter Melissa The mesero is a large tablecloth -size shawl, that is used when attending church, to hold groceries or to hold a child. In this dance, the uses of the mesero are demonstrated. Then a mother prays that her ailing daughter will be well enough to join her in the festival dance, demonstrates the dance, and encourages her daughter to follow. La Raspa (Circle Dance) for children and adults Caller: Tina. La Raspa, often thought only as a Mexican dance, has been enjoyed in Calabria, and other parts of southern Italy. "La raspa" means a file, a big one, not a nail file; or it can come from the verb "raspere" which means to scratch the earth as a chicken does. Also sometimes referred to as "il treno", the train, because of its rhythm. Come join us as Tina calls the moves and simplifies the learning of LaRaspa. Can be danced in a circle or with partners. Easy or Children's Tarantella for children and new Tarantella adults. Caller: Tina. Danced to Tarantella Napoletana, this is a simple tarantella for people new to the dance, and to introduce children to this, the original dance of Italy. Come join us, children and adults alike! Tina will call the steps and figures. Il Codiglione (vs Quadrille) for children and adults. Caller: Tina. Il Codiglione, like the square dance, has a series of figures, and needs a caller or "caposala". A quadrille, on the other hand, has a series of figures which the dancers memorize and there is no caller. Codigliones and quadrilles have been danced all over Italy. The caller is free to arrange the figures in whatever order she desires. The "basket" is especially fun! Tarantella for children and adults. Demonstration by Tina. The flirtatious Tarantella is composed of a number of figures in any order dictated by the dancers. There is no set pattern, but the actions and movements of the body give it its character. She is graceful, modest and playful. He snaps his fingers, knees slightly bent, and has an air of charm, respect and boastfulness. Be flirtatious, playful, modest! Tarantella: Everyone. Leader: Tina. Here's an opportunity to apply what you have learned in earlier dances on this tape. Follow Tina and then apply your own creativity using the steps and figures learned earlier in this video.
